- media viability
From 12–20 May, RNW Media hosted 12 Egyptian media professionals in Haarlem, the Netherlands, as part of the Capacity Building for Media Professionals (CBMP) programme. This visit marked the second round of the three-year initiative supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo.
During their first week, participants took part in a five-day intensive course on public interest media, led by the RNTC Training Centre. The training covered key themes such as ethical journalism, fact-checking, countering disinformation and the role of artificial intelligence in modern media. With a mix of theory and hands-on assignments, the course encouraged both critical thinking and practical skills.
In the second week, participants went on tailored study visits across The Hague and Amsterdam. These included meetings with the European Commission, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Association of Journalists (NVJ). They also explored sites like the Peace Palace, Binnenhof, Noordeinde Palace and the World Press Photo 2025 Exhibition, gaining insights into journalism in practice and media governance.
The programme also fostered peer exchange, giving journalists a space to share experiences, discuss common challenges and build cross-border networks. Many left with a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the wider mission of public service media.
Programmes like CBMP are part of RNW Media’s broader commitment to media development. By supporting professionals who inform and empower their communities, we aim to contribute to a more open and inclusive information space.
