2020 was a year of many unexpected challenges for the global community. At RNW Media, we adapted to a new way of working, changed our activities to respond directly to the COVID-19 crisis and tapped into our digital media expertise and creative staff to do it. We are proud to present our Annual Report 2020, highlighting our key achievements and progress from the year.
Engaging Dutch youth
Social media has immense power to reach out to and engage with young people. As an international NGO based in the Netherlands, we believe it is important for Dutch youth to learn about the challenges facing young people in restrictive settings.
Calling on Press Freedom for Young Online Media-Makers
Today is World Press Freedom Day. At RNW Media, we are calling on decision-makers, citizens and young people to stand in solidarity with young media-makers across the world and defend press freedom.
RNW Media awarded €1.5 million by the Dutch Postcode Lottery
The Dutch Postcode Lottery has awarded €1.5 million to RNW Media to continue its crucial work in building online communities to connect and engage with young people in places where their human rights are under threat.
Justice4Her – fighting GBV in China
Justice4Her, works to reduce GBV against young women migrant workers in China. An independent external evaluation of the project confirms its impact and effectiveness.
Recognition for South Sudanese RNTC Alumnus
Threats, intimidation censorship – Daniel Ngor continues to report on sensitive issues in South Sudan despite facing all these challenges. His work has been recognised by the FIGHR with their 2020 Prize of Peace Award.

Rawan El- Muntasser is a young visual artist based in Tripoli, Libya. Her passion is calligraphy and her aim is to make an impact and to earn a reputation simply as ‘an artist’ rather than being patronised as a ‘female artist’.

Today is Human Rights Day – a moment to reaffirm the importance of human rights in building the world we want. COVID-19 has brought particular challenges in 2020 as some governments have been using the pandemic as an excuse to clamp down on citizens’ rights.
