Today, November 25, is the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. RNW Media’s network of online platforms address GBV with content and campaigns tailored to the local context.
Cultural, social and economic restrictions all make it harder for women to access the internet than their male peers. Gender inclusion is central to RNW Media’s approach and we were proud to host a session at the Internet Governance Forum on engaging young women online.
Facebook often censors educational content on sexual and reproductive health and rights, categorising it as ‘sexual content’ such as pornography or explicit nudity. This misunderstanding is a huge challenge to our Global Love Matters Network platforms.
RNW Media was one of the organisations involved in the online session ‘UN75, Shaping our Future together”. Marking the UN’s 75th anniversary, the event focused on the implementation of SDG 16: a peaceful, just and inclusive society.
