It’s pervasive, insidious, and deeply personal. Human rights defenders are framed as enemies of tradition. Grassroots movements are painted as foreign conspiracies. Entire communities are left vulnerable to the confusion and distrust these narratives create.

To address this and contribute to the program of the five nominees while in the Netherlands, RNW Media provided hands-on capacity-building sessions. One of the trainings focused specifically on practical strategies to combat disinformation:

Identifying false narratives to protect advocacy efforts from being undermined.

Analyzing real-world examples where misinformation has disrupted critical human rights work.

Developing truthful, impactful narratives that can rebuild trust in communities where truth itself is contested.

“Countering lies isn’t just about combating falsehoods—it’s about safeguarding the communities that depend on our efforts.”

Stella Maris: A Voice for Women’s Rights in Argentina

Stella Maris’s advocacy for women’s rights in Argentina underscores the fragility of institutional support systems. As part of the Public Ministry of the Nation’s Defense, she focuses on protecting marginalized women, including refugees, and indigenous populations.

Yet the challenges are mounting. Under the current administration, the Ministry on Women has been closed, and programs supporting victims of gender-based violence have been dismantled. These rollbacks have widened the gap in protections for Argentina’s most vulnerable women.

During the program, Stella met with representatives from Wo=Men, including Eva Colombo and Isa Niessink.
