With over 75 years of experience, RNW Media has evolved from an international radio broadcaster into a champion of independent digital media. We are proud of our 75 years of legacy in the media sector, over 50 years as a training center, and more than 10 years of building innovative solutions with and for independent digital media.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Founded in 1947, Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) began as the Dutch international public broadcaster, dedicated to fostering the free flow of information. In 1968, the Radio Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC)<\/a> was established to provide professional capacity building for journalists and media makers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In 2012, RNW transitioned fully into a digital media organization called RNW Media. By 2021, 85% of media brands and outlets we established had become independent, self-sustained locally registered organizations until today. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 2021, RNW Media has solidified its role as an international media development organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

By 2024, RNW Media and its network of media partners had reached over 500 million people annually, predominantly young audiences. Among those who engaged with the digital content 89.6% reported improved knowledge or changed attitudes and 58.3% reported significant changes in their behavior. Together with our advocacy partners, we successfully enabled tech platforms such as META to change their content advertising and moderation policies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Independent media focus on safeguarding editorial freedom, operating without undue influence from governments, corporations, or other powerful entities. At RNW Media, we believe in a world where open societies are powered by digital media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Our leadership structure reflects this commitment. CEO Wouter van Tongeren leads our Leadership Team, which includes the Director of Media Innovation and<\/span> the Director of Programmes. Together, they guide our strategic, financial, and operational decisions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Oversight is provided by our Supervisory Board, responsible for supervising the development and execution of our vision, mission, strategy, inclusion of stakeholders, and risk management. Board members serve four-year terms and can be reappointed once. They bring valuable networks to their roles and act as advisors and ambassadors for RNW Media. Notably, they serve without financial compensation, underscoring their dedication to our mission.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

All staff, including management, are compensated in line with Dutch NGO sector standards, with salaries below that of a director-general in government service. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>

We believe in the power of inclusion. Our employee representation structure, Umoja\/PVT, ensures that voices from across our global team are heard. This group meets regularly with the CEO to discuss strategic issues, aiming to improve communication and inclusion throughout the organization.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Transparency is key to our operations. We publish a management report and an annual report detailing our activities and financial accountability.
