RNW Media is an international digital media accelerator, working for impact. Our mission is to accelerate the impact of locally rooted civil society organisations and media outlets in their use of digital media to reach, engage and mobilize young people aged 15 to 35 on issues that matter to them like government accountability, gender equality or climate justice. We work with those who, like us, want to unleash the potential of next generations (millennials, Gen Z) in countries where freedom of expression and digital inclusion are under pressure. It is our goal to ensure that by 2030, through digital media, one billion young people can make informed decisions, advance their rights and positively affect society.

We are proud to have 75 years of experience in the media sector, over 50 years as a training centre and more than 10 years working on media for development. 

The purpose of the position

The Partnership Lead develops and manages strategic partnerships with key accounts both institutional donors and foundations as country - and knowledge partners. With these partners  RNW Media co-creates programmes/projects to reach, engage and mobilize young people by using digital media tools to unleash their potential to contribute to the SDGs most relevant to them. These partnerships enable RNW Media to generate income and have an impact. The Partnership Lead supports the strategic approach of the Business & Partnership Development cluster and strengthens the Partnership Coordinators in the team. Additionally the Partnership Lead will play a central role in the development of new 5 year 'Strategic Partnerships' with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Positioning in the organisation

The Partnership Lead reports to the Business & Partnership Development Director and works closely with various Team Leads and Experts across the organisation.

Your responsibilities

The Partnership Lead: 

  • Is responsible for building and nurturing a ‘network’ of strategic partners of international donors that enable RNW Media to generate income and have an impact; 
  • Develops and implements annual account plans per strategic partner and sets targets on income generation and joint impact; 
  • Is responsible for the identification of country partners (civil society organisations and media outlets) and knowledge partners and the co-creation of project ideas;
  • Is responsible for the full proposal development process; from the co-creation of project ideas with multi-disciplinary teams to the project design and intervention logic, proposal writing, smart budgeting and contracting; 
  • Works with experts from the digital media & learning solutions team, and the impact team to come up with breakthrough project ideas; 
  • Positions and represents RNW Media as a ‘house of experts’ on media (for) development, young people and impact & technology at international development conferences/ events and in the 'digital space'; 
  • Follows the international development agenda and pro-actively engages (new) international donors with project ideas in support of civil society organizations and media outlets in restrictive settings.  

Knowledge and experience

The Partnership Lead has: 

  • A Master’s Degree in International Development, New Media or related field;
  • Fluency in English and intermediate proficiency in Dutch is required for this position;
  • At least 7-10 years of relevant experience in turning project ideas into funded projects and strategic partnership management; 
  • A proven track record in raising funds with international donors (multilateral, bilateral, foundations, philanthropy) by submitting relevant and innovative proposals;  
  • Experience working with partners from the Global South; 
  • Knowledge of the international development agenda and expertise working on freedom of expression, digital inclusion of young people;  
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. 
  • A valid residence and work permit for the Netherlands.

At RNW Media we have a competitive Compensation & Benefits package. This job is graded in salary scale 9 (€3.833,16- – € 5.513,10-). Your salary and placement within the scale will be dependent on experience and expertise. We offer a one year contract, subject to renewal.
