We are looking for a Media Innovation Lead

In a challenging, international and dynamic environment 

36 hours/week, starting asap 

Purpose of the position

The Media Innovation Lead contributes to designing, executing and innovating RNW Media’s digital media interventions and solutions. The Media Innovation Lead scopes developments within digital media landscape and understands their applicability to RNW Media’s work, focussing on defining fundable and scalable digital media interventions and solutions. As the senior media innovation expert, the Media Innovation Lead acts as a sounding board of the digital media pool of experts and aspire them to further conceptualise innovative solutions and follow through with implementation. They will also work on projects, both internal and external, and ensure a healthy workload for their pool of expertise. 

Responsibilities

The Media Innovation Lead:

  • Acts as the sounding board of the digital media pool of experts and demonstrates leadership in supporting them to develop fundable and scalable digital media interventions and solutions.
  • Supports the Director Media Innovation and Team Lead Media Innovation to manage solution portfolio and optimize the solution development cycle and other processes.
  • Lead the digital media intervention innovation initiatives based on the newest industry trends and needs of donors and partners, through the co-creation with the Vine members, academic or peer organizations such as via the hackathon or prototyping sessions.
  • Lead the development process of new digital media solutions or revamping of existing solutions based on the outcome of the cocreation sessions in collaboration with in/external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Business and Partnership Development team to convert innovative digital media interventions or solutions into concept notes or proposals to support active fundraising.
  • Leads the digital media solution implementation activities in various programmes and projects with partners, including training, coaching, consultation or digital product development, ensuring best quality and customer experience. 
  • Aligns with the Impact Team to translate research agenda or data insight into concrete digital media interventions and capture the impact of the solution implementation. 
  • Aligns with the Learning Solution Team to further develop the digital media solution into learning solution.  
  • Coordinate with the Positioning and Visibility team to raise the profile of digital media solutions and its impact, strengthen our positioning as a thought leader. 
  • Support organizational advocacy efforts from solution development and innovation perspective, centred to the intersectionality of the big techs’ transparency and accountability and media viability. 
  • Other tasks assigned by the Team Lead Media Innovation. 

 

Knowledge & Experience

The Media Innovation Lead has:

  • Masters’ Degree in journalism and communication, digital marketing, social studies or related field. 
  • At least 7 years’ working experience in digital media and journalism or media development project management, preferably in public interest and independent media outlets/brands, or international media development and media support organization. 
  • Strong knowledge and expertise on media development themes/topics and competitive and fundable digital media interventions, preferably around media and information integrity (counter dis/mis/mal information) and/or media viability (sustainable media operating and business models and media partnership). 
  • Good knowledge and expertise on digital media product development and/or implementation, such as training, coaching, consultation and co-creation digital content, digital campaign and digital product with partners.  
  • Proven media development project management skills and experience in people management in a project-based organization. 
  • Solid understanding of digital media and information ecosystem, newest trends and tactics around digital technologies and digital marketing and AI deployment in journalism and media. 
  • Strong knowledge of human rights topics, centred to media freedom, freedom of expression and rights to access to information. Having knowledge or interests of crosscutting topics such as gender equality and migration is a plus. 
  • Good understanding of media development funding landscape. Experience in participating media development fundraising and proposal writing is required.  
  • Ability to translate competitive and fundable digital media interventions into winning concept note or proposal, in collaboration with Partnership and Business Development team. 
  • Proven data skills and experience, and familiar with data analytic tools, including Google Analytics and Hootsuite. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Fluent in English.  
  • A result-driven and high output leader, quick learner and ability of adapting in a change environment.   
  • Ability of working in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team collaboration environment.

At RNW Media, we offer a competitive Compensation & Benefits package. This position falls within salary scale 9 (€3,833 – €5,513), with the exact salary dependent on a range of factors, including your experience, expertise, and alignment with organizational benchmarks and peer roles within RNW Media.

We offer a one year contract, subject to renewal.
